The process is simple! A plastic "retractor" is placed into the mouth to hold the cheeks and tongue in position and a protective dam is applied to the gums. The whitening gel is applied to the teeth. The main ingredient in the whitening gel is Chlorine Dioxide. This chemical turns to water and molecular oxygen, which penetrates the enamel and almost all types of stains are lifted out.

The laser light acts as a catalyst and activates the whitening agent in the gel by delivering an optimal bandwidth of light energy. The whitening gel is specifically formulated to respond to this wavelength of light and the reaction created whitens the teeth within the "smile region."
